Suspect in Custody Following Non-Fatal Stabbing

A man is recovering, and a suspect is in custody, after a stabbing in Abingdon Monday morning.

On September 11, 2023, at approximately 11:13 a.m., patrol deputies assigned to the Southern Precinct of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 3500 block of Woodsdale Road in Abingdon for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, deputies located a male, identified as John Edward Leura, 44, of Aberdeen, suffering from a stab wound to the upper body. Deputies immediately began rendering aid on Leura. Medics arrived and continued treatment before he was transported to a local trauma center.

The investigation was assumed by detectives from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division. Investigators from the Forensic Services Unit responded to collect and preserve physical evidence in support of the investigation.

Shortly after arrival, patrol deputies identified the suspect as David Alexander Barmer, 53, of Abingdon. Deputies located his vehicle and took him into custody during a traffic stop without incident. Barmer and Leura are known to each other. Barmer was transported to the Harford County Detention Center where he is currently held awaiting initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
