A man is recovering, and detectives are investigating following a shooting in Joppa Friday night.
On September 9, 2022, at approximately 11:30 p.m., deputies assigned to the Southern Precinct of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office received information that a shooting occurred at the light controlling traffic from southbound I-95 to Maryland Route 152 in Joppa. While responding, deputies were informed of a walk-in shooting victim at the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. Deputies responded to the area of the reported shooting and secured the scene. Additional deputies responded to the hospital to make contact with the shooting victim, identified as Kenneth Chibuzo Ejelonu, 18, of Edgewood. Ejelonu was suffering from non-fatal gunshot wounds to the upper body.
The investigation was assumed by Detectives from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division. Investigators from the Forensic Services Unit responded to the area to collect and preserve physical evidence in support of the investigation.
The initial investigation indicated Ejelonu was in a car at the intersection, when an unknown subject pulled up in another vehicle, opened fire on Ejelonu’s vehicle, striking it several times before driving off.
The investigation is ongoing, and the motive and any known relationship between the victim and suspect are under investigation. No further information will be released at this time.
