Deputies in the Community
Annual Awards Ceremony 2019
April 11, 2019
Tonight we held our annual awards ceremony, to honor those Deputies and community members who went above and beyond in 2018 while serving the community of Harford County.
Included in the awards were all those who selflessly, and without regard to their own safety, rushed into the Rite Aid distribution warehouse to stop an active assailant and save lives.
Also this year we honored our deputies of the year:
Sgt. Chris Crespo – Correctional Deputy of the Year
Senior Deputy Rich Dean – Deputy of the Year
Sgt. Mike Lane – Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year
Congratulations everybody!

We love to brag about our deputies! Last night, Senior Deputy Robert Kovacs, received the Bel Air Knights of Columbus Police Officer of the Year Award.
Senior Deputy Kovacs is the School Resource Officer for Patterson Mill High School, and is truly representative of the best values of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office!
Congratulations Kovacs!

Many of our deputies wear multiple first responder hats, and Jeremy Mothershed of our K9 Unit is one of them. In addition to being a Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputy, Senior Deputy Jeremy Mothershed is also a member of a volunteer fire company.
This weekend, Deputy Mothershed was honored with the Harford Cecil Volunteer Firemen’s Association Austin D. Amos, Jr. Award. He has dedicated more than 25 years of his life to protecting the citizens of Harford County, and we are proud to call him one of our own.
Congratulations Jeremy!

Visit from North Bend Elementary
January 22, 2019
This morning, two students from North Bend Elementary School stopped by to deliver goodies for the deputies at the Northern Precinct as part of their “Patriot Program” through school!
Thank you JP and Zoey! You both are certainly demonstrating awesome citizenship and have the makings of great patriots!
Deputy Mitch
January 20, 2019
Deputy Khalid Mitchell, or “Deputy Mitch” as some know him, is loved by his community. And it’s no secret why.
The SRO of Joppatowne High School is fully vested in not just his school community, but the area as a whole.
This week, during halftime at a boys’ basketball game at the school, “Deputy Mitch” presented two students with bicycles, that he purchased with his own money. This is the second year he has done this. Students at the game are nominated as “good citizens” and must be between the ages for 5 and 10.
We are so lucky to have a deputy like him representing the best we have to offer Harford County! Thank you Deputy Mitch!
Lt. Eric Gonzalez
January 19, 2019
Our deputies don’t just do their best to protect our community, but they also spend much of their time giving back and helping those in need.
Over the holiday season, Lt. Eric Gonzalez delivered items, including coloring books, that he collected to Sinai Hospital. Lt. Gonzalez has been gathering donations for the children at the hospital for several years.
New Recruit
January 17, 2019
In July of 2017, Sheriff Jeff Gahler announced the start of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Cadet program. The first Cadet was hired, and Sheriff Gahler shared his plans to eventually grow the program to four agency Cadets.
Fast forward to January 2019 – Our first Cadet begins the Law Enforcement Academy as a RECRUIT at the end of this month, and four new Cadets join our ranks. Congratulations!
Please join us in welcoming them to the HCSO family and wishing them well. Be sure to say hello when you see them in the community!
