[July 27, 2015, Joppa, MD] Deputies from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Southern Precinct and a Trooper from the Bel Air Barrack of the Maryland State Police were involved in the shooting of a 23 year old male in the 3300 block of Clayton Road, in Joppa on July 25, 2015. The suspect has been identified as Kevin Shawn Cox of the same address.
The shooting occurred after the suspect had discharged his weapon several times from his 2007 Dodge Charger, which had traveled off the driveway of the home and stopped in a yard. During the investigation, Detectives from the Forensic Services Unit recovered a loaded 38 revolver from the scene.
The subject was transported to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for his injuries by Maryland State Police helicopter, Trooper 1, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.
The involved deputies and trooper are on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation into this incident. The deputies are identified as Cpl. Christopher Aycock, 9 years of law enforcement service; DFC Michael Stambaugh, 10 years of law enforcement service; DFC Justin DiZenzo, 5 years of law enforcement service (2 years with the Baltimore Police Department), and Deputy Nathan Schnitzlein 11 months of law enforcement service, all from Patrol Services Division. From the HCSO K9 Unit, Cpl. John Seilback, with 22 years of law enforcement service (5 with the Howard County Police Department). From the Maryland State Police, Trooper First Class Michael Dowling, assigned to the Bel Air Barrack with 6 years of law enforcement service.
Investigators from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police Criminal Investigation Divisions are conducting a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Upon completion, the investigation will be forwarded to the Harford County State’s Attorney’s Office for review.
