A 16 year old male is recovering and detectives are investigating following a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Edgewood Friday afternoon.
On November 17, 2023, at approximately 3:12 p.m., deputies assigned to the Southern Precinct of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the report of a drive-by shooting that occurred in the 1500 block of Harford Square Dr. in Edgewood. Deputies responded to the area and made contact with the victim. The victim was suffering from a non-fatal gunshot wound to his thigh. Deputies immediately began providing emergency care until EMS arrived and took over treatment, before transporting him to a local trauma center.
The investigation was assumed by Detectives from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division. Investigators from the Forensic Services Unit responded to the area to collect and preserve physical evidence in support of the investigation.
The investigation led Detectives to a nearby residence. A search warrant for the residence resulted in the recovery of evidence to include a spent bullet casing and a live round. Through investigation and interviews it was determined the victim accidentally shot himself with a handgun. Investigators have confirmed this incident was not a drive by shooting and all involved parties are accounted for.
The investigation is continuing and charges may be pending.
