“A few weeks ago, I spoke to our Harford County Community to express my concerns with a number of anti-policing bills moving through the Maryland Legislature under the guise of “police reform.” I said it then that misinformed progressive politicians had introduced legislation, that if passed, would change policing and public safety in a negative way for years, if not generations, to come.
Today, as Sheriff of Harford County, I am calling on Governor Larry Hogan to veto HB 670, SB’s 71, 178 and 600 and send a message to the General Assembly to focus on reducing violent crime in Maryland and not further tying the hands of the good men and woman in law enforcement. I assure you, only the criminals and the uninformed will sit back and admire the work of our legislature if these bills are signed into law.
Governor Hogan, this is NOT legislation that will protect public safety, it will NOT make policing better in Maryland, it will NOT allow chiefs and sheriffs to hold bad cops accountable, nor will it improve the quality of life for Marylanders.”
