The three things necessary to commit a crime are: Desire, Ability, and Opportunity, known as the Crime Triangle. As a citizen there is little you can do to affect a criminal’s desire and/or ability to commit crime. Therefore, minimizing/eliminating opportunity is your best defense against crime.
